• A plant sculpture is called topiary, the training of living trees and shrubs into artificial, decorative shapes.

Living sculpture is any type of sculpture that is created with living, growing grasses, vines, plants or trees. It can be functional and/or ornamental.

There are several different types of living sculpture techniques, including topiary (prune plants or train them over frames), sod works (create sculptures using soil and grass or moss), tree shaping (growing designs with living trees) and mowing and crop art (create patterns or pictures with plants or in lawns).

Most living sculpture technique requires horticultural skills, such as grafting or pruning, to create the art.

 • The sculpture labeled the Hippo Ballerina was created by Danish artist Bjorn Okholm Skaarup. The placement of the sculpture was coordinated with the New York City Art in the Park program. The sculpture was inspired by the dancing hippos in the legendary Walt Disney film Fantasia. That film was originally released in 1940 and stood as Walt Disney’s third animated feature film.

Skaarup’s stature was also inspired by Edgar Degas sculpture entitled “Little Dancer Aged Fourteen.” The outfit on Skaarup’s Hippo Ballerina is similar to the same as the outfit worn by Edgar Degas’s sculpture.

The 2.5-ton bronze Hippo Ballerina sculpture at Pershing Square Plaza West is located on the west side of Park Avenue between East 41st and East 42nd Streets in Midtown

The sculptures will remain on display through December 2022.
• Simone Leigh presents Brick House, a 16-foot-tall bronze bust of a Black woman with a torso that combines the forms of a skirt and a clay house. The sculpture’s head is crowned with an afro framed by cornrow braids, each ending in a cowrie shell. Brick House is the inaugural commission for the High Line Plinth, a new landmark destination for major public artworks in New York City.

This is the first monumental sculpture in Leigh’s Anatomy of Architecture series, an ongoing body of work in which the artist combines architectural forms from regions as varied as West Africa and the Southern United States with the human body. The title comes from the term for a strong Black woman who stands with the strength, endurance, and integrity of a house made of bricks.
• Adam Parker Smith’s new sculpture Ganymede with Jupiter’s Eagle (2022), presented by The Hole, is at first glance both instinctively recognizable and bizarrely different. The artist—working with a team of master carvers, a seven-axis reductive robot, and the digital research teams at museums like the Uffizi—has rendered some of the greatest hits of Hellenic sculpture in 3D modelling programs, before compressing each of them into a compact cube, painstakingly chiseled out of a Carrara marble block. The ancient stone draws a material through-line between the sculpture Smith has chosen for his antic homage—Apollo of Belvedere, Bernini’s David, and others—the better to defamiliarize these paradigmatic works as they appear before the viewer, radically reshaped
Michael Heizer an American land artist specializing in large-scale and site-specific sculptures. Working largely outside the confines of the traditional art spaces of galleries and museums, Heizer has redefined sculpture in terms of size, mass, gesture, and process.

A pioneer of 20th-century land art or Earthworks movement, he is widely recognized for sculptures and environmental structures made with earth-moving equipment, which he began creating in the American West in 1967. He currently lives and works in Hiko, Nevada and New York City.

1982 work at the former IBM Building in New York, Heizer sheared off the top of a large rock and cut grooves into the surface before setting it on supports hidden within a stainless steel structure. Designed as a fountain, the boulder appears to float over running water. He called it Levitated Mass, a title he would use again in future.

 • Golda Meir is an outdoor bronze sculpture of former Israeli prime minister Golda Meir.

The sculpture is located a bronze sculpture Square near Broadway and 39th St in Manhattan, New York. It was unveiled in 1984.

It is one of only five statues of women in New York City, as of 2016

The bust of Golda Meir, by Beatrice Goldfine, was dedicated on October 3, 1984 at the southern end of a triangular plaza on Broadway, which was named Golda Meir Square in 1979. Commissioned by the Jewish Community Relations Council, the bronze bust rests on a pink granite pedestal and measures a total of six and a half feet tall.

Golda Meir (born Golda Mabobitch, 1898 – 1978, Hebrew: גּוֹלְדָּה מֵאִיר), one of the founders of the State of Israel, served as the Minister of Labour, Foreign Minister, and then as the fourth Prime Minister of Israel from March 17, 1969 (at age 70) to June 3, 1974. She is the first (and, to date, only) female Prime Minister of Israel, the third female Prime Minister in the world, and the first female head of state to oversee the development of a nuclear weapons program. She led Israel through the Yom Kippur War and the War or Attrition, and ordered the "Operation Wrath of God" following the Munich massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympic Games.

The AIDS Memorial white lattice canopy sculpture series is the thematic use of abstract repetition, showing differences in perception of light and shadows across various times of day and weather as in Monet's haystack painting.

Claude Monet, impressionist painter is known for his haystack painting. The underlying theme may be seen as the transience of light. This concept shows nuances of perception as seasons, time of day, and weather changes. The constant subject provided the basis from which comparisons could be made in changes of light across this nuanced series.
