Laotian American Couple. Laotian community settled in Putnam County FL in the late 1970's after the Vietnam War ended. The first refugees worked as farm labors, sending their children to school and then on to college. The second generation, found little or no employment in Putnam County a poor county and left for the cities for jobs. The family is central to the Lao culture, the very close Laotian community will come together in support of their fellow Laotians. The U.S. Census 2000 there are 3,522 in Florida..
