Large-scale replicas of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes are on display in the Oculus, Santiago Calatrava’s winged hall New York City.
An art exhibit featuring 34 nearly life-size copies of the Renaissance painter’s frescoes that adorn the Sistine Chapel in Rome will be on display in the Oculus..
“It allows our visitors and our audience to experience the artwork as close-up as Michelangelo got to see it,”
A centerpiece of the show is a replica of the iconic painter’s "The Last Judgment." The fresco was painted over the entire altar wall of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City.
The masterpiece, painted by the Florentine artist between 1536 and 1541, depicts a calm-looking Christ figure contrasted by the action that swirls around him just before his final judgment is rendered.
Other paintings on display will include: Prophet Jeremiah, Creation of Eve, David and Goliath, and the Sacrifice of Noah.
