NYPD Auxiliary force honors fallen officers 11 years after they were tragically gunned down in Greenwich Village.
Tragic death of NYPD Auxiliary officers Eugene Marshalik, 19, and Nicholas Pekearo, 28, were on patrol on March 14, 2007, when they confronted deranged wannabe movie director David Garvin.
Relatives of the officers and scores of auxiliary police officers walked down Bleecker Street, the procession ended at the intersection of Sullivan and Bleecker Sts., where the corner was named after Marshalik and Pekearo.
The deaths of the auxiliary officers 11 years ago stunned the city and led to the purchasing of bullet proof vests for members of the NYPD’s auxiliary — unpaid civilian volunteers who aim to deter crime by acting as the “eyes and ears” of the NYPD and providing a uniformed presence.
