Louis Comfort Tiffany Stained Glass Window 'Grapevine Panels' in the American Wing Courtyard in The Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET)
These highly decorative panels feature lush grapes and vines entwined on a rectilinear trellis. The broad leaves are rendered in a wide variety of greens touched with blue, purple, and even pink. The slender—vines--some lead, some glass--twist themselves around the trellis, while the rounded, three-dimensional forms of the grapes further enhance the illusionistic effect. In another hallmark of Tiffany windows, the leading is of varying thickness; the grapevines are delicate and fluid, while thicker, more uniform leading conveys the rigidity of the trellis.
