Marriage Vows - GOR-81726-11-cR

Together for 13 years, gay couple exchanging marriage vows and rings, 5 1/2 daughter stands by.

Gay marriage became the law, as 484 couples lined up as early as 7 am, outside the City Clerk's Office in lower Manhattan to take their marriage vows.

Same-sex marriage in the U.S. state of New York became legal on July 24, 2011 under the Marriage Equality Act, which was passed on June 24, 2011 by the New York State Legislature and signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo on the same day.

The Marriage Equality Act does not have a residency restriction like some other states and allows religious organizations to decline from officiating same sex wedding ceremonies.
